My dad flew 3290 hrs PIC in the earlier non GPS 1986 model 35A. 135LJ Eagle Aviation. He never failed to remind me that the only factors for controls of this plane was Needle, Ball, Airspeed. I replete Needle, Ball, Airspeed. Could of flew for Comair later but decided to follow the plane to KAPF and charter untill 1991. Check out the Saberliner P3D.

Concerning the use of automation. I think some european carriers take this issue of improficiency very seriously. As far as I know, some companies such as Lufthansa or Condor have their manuals actively encourage handflying and even make the use of manual thrust on approach mandatory.

I was going to comment that flight level change and IAS hold are basically the same thing as far as I know (except I don’t think on the MD-80 that the thrust levels move on their own in IAS hold and I believe Boeing moves them to idle or climb when you press FL CH).

What the hell is going on with the pitch trim on this thing? Guess I’ll stick to 737/320s. If this “Real” then all current 787 versions must be wrong? What’s with the constant bobbing up and down and pitch trim having zero effect?
